Athena & Bowie's Woodshop – Custom Exotic Woodworking
Welcome to our site! Athena and Bowie are our two rescue puppers. More info below…

Athena is a mutt’s mutt. We did her DNA, because we’re those kind of people, and it breaks down like this:
- 20% Australian Shepherd (don’t see it)
- 17% Pit Bull (see a little in her face, sometimes)
- 15% Beagle (uh…no)
- 11% Labrador Retriever (color?)
- 7% Boxer (gangly legs!)
- 7% Collie (not really)
- 7% German Shepherd (I don’t know)
- 16% Supermutt (most definitely!)
As you can see…she doesn’t make any sense! 6 out 7 breeds are medium to large dogs and she’s 25 pounds! But we can see a little bit of each in her. She was born in June of 2019 (after her pregnant mom was rescued) and we adopted her at 8 weeks old. She’s a goofball.
Bowie is a great story. Bowie’s mix is:
- 24% Dachshund (yeah, shaped that way)
- 23% Cocker Spaniel (coat)
- 21% Chihuahua (face, eyes)
- 17% Rat Terrier (he shakes toys like crazy!)
- 8% Basset Hound (he howls!)
Bowie’s breakdown makes a lot of sense. He’s little, 15 pounds, and acts like most of these breeds. Bowie was born around the Fall of 2017. He and his sister were running around in the woods for about a year and a half before they were caught and sent to a shelter. When we adopted him, he was afraid of everything, especially men. We’ve worked with him over the years and he’s so much more confident now. His over-confident sister has been a big help.

Athena’s first day…no confidence issues here!
Bowie’s first day. He stayed in his crate all day, afraid to come out.

Athena kept trying to get Bowie to engage…this was the first time Bowie responded to Athena’s begging her to play. The first time his tail wagged. Brought tears to my eyes. He was so scared, he’d pee if you picked him up…but Athena brought out the dog in him.
The two of them are inseparable now, three years later. I love it when he (the little guy) chases her (the “big” girl). They are quite a pair!
The daily battle now of who gets to be in who’s lap. I think they’re doing okay. 🙂
